Stoneware clay (25 #), glaze, and firing are included.  Students are able to attend our Thursday night Open Studios from 6-9 pm at no charge. (Teachers don’t usually attend Open Studio.) CLASS SIZE IS STRICTLY LIMITED TO 7 STUDENTS DUE TO THE NUMBER OF POTTERY WHEELS IN THE STUDIO.

In this class, you will learn INTERMEDIATE techniques of throwing clay on the potters’ wheel.  You will go through all the steps of creating clay forms from the initial step of centering the clay to making forms such as cylinders, bowls, plates, mugs, and pitchers. You will learn how to use the various tools involved in the throwing process, as well as how to trim, glaze, and fire your creations.  You will also learn new glazing techniques and finish several projects.

Instructor Kristen Bonelli: Kristen Bonelli
Kristen’s passion for pottery was ignited in Mrs. Marks’ art class at Elkhart Central High School. That love carried into many late nights in the pottery studio at Saint Mary’s College, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree. After college, she occasionally took pottery classes and workshops—finally fully returning to pottery at the Elkhart Art League at the suggestion of Anne Blackburn. Kristen equally enjoys throwing vessels on the wheel and hand building; often combining several techniques in building her work. She is a pottery tool and glaze hoarder who loves to alter pieces with carving, piercing, sgraffito, sculpting, and glaze combinations.
