Featured Artist: Katherine Corpe

3ef307de0bb0f62083bb8b1e4f0ea308-02Katherine is a recent addition to the Elkhart Art League, and we are thrilled to have her and showcase her talent. She is featured locally at Silk Purse Gallery, a showing artist in this year’s ArtPrize, and recently juried into the 38th Elkhart Juried Regional Show at the Midwest Museum of American Art. Katherine’s prints are bold and expressive representations of nature.

A Midwestern printmaker and drawer/painter with an MFA in studio art. I see the spiritual essence and magnanimity in nature. The original prints I am displaying are a part of a larger series of work describing the tensions and vulnerability of nature’s grip represented within large animals used as the vessel.

Artist Bio

Born and raised in Elkhart, Indiana, I received a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Indiana University South Bend in 2014. I received my MFA in Studio Art from Memphis College of Art in Memphis, Tennessee in 2016. I recently displayed my work in group shows in Memphis, as well as Grand Rapids, Michigan. I seek great joy in nature and the land’s mighty beasts. Horses, bulls, cows, pigs, and the human figure are the subjects within my body of work. I find magnetic and powerful energy within the spirit of animals as I enjoy horseback riding and time spent on farms. I enjoy nature and all its encompassing power over small human existence. I am currently residing in northern Indiana where I live and work.
