Teacher Biography, Douglas Schauer – Wood Carving
A “hoosier-by-marriage”, Douglas has lived in Indiana for 21 years with his wife and two daughters. He started carving 12 years ago after seeing a co-worker carve a Christmas present for a friend. He got his own tools and was hooked! Being entirely self-taught, Douglas has explored many different styles of carving, from lifelike raptors to silly caricatures, to signs and whimsical creatures. He is experienced in knife carving, power carving, and carving with chisels/gouges. His work has been featured in Woodcarving Illustrated and has won many blue ribbons at the Elkhart and Cass County Fairs. He has recently focused more of his time on carving through his custom carving business, “DS Woodcarver, LLC”.
